The Grandest of Tetons

It is hard to know how to even begin to describe our time at Grand Teton National Park.

It was one of the first parks we knew we had to visit when we started to plan our trip a year ago.  We knew it would be beautiful but we were unprepared for just the amount of beauty we would find.  We decided to take on the Tetons while boondocking (which means no hookups… if your rig doesn’t fully provide it, you aint got it) and we are so glad. It is hard to know how to even begin to describe our time at Grand Teton National Park.  It was one of the first parks we knew we had to visit when we started to plan our trip a year ago.  We knew it would be beautiful but we were unprepared for just the amount of beauty we would find.  We decided to take on the Tetons while boondocking (which means no hookups… if your rig doesn’t fully provide it, you aint got it) and we are so glad we did. We researched and found a spot with a view that seemed like it was straight from a movie but there was no way to reserve it so that meant we hit the road at 4am after a whole 10 hours in Casper Wyoming to make sure we got the spot we wanted.  We got our desired place at the edge of a cliff with nothing but National Forest and National Park surrounding us.  There wasn’t a single inch that didn’t seem majestic as the sun shown on the mountains.  And as the sun went down, you could see every star in the sky because there was no light to drown them out.  I seriously doubt we will have a view like that from our camper the rest of the trip. Have I mentioned God makes some AMAZING stuff?!! It was a fairytale location and with the cooler temps and constant breeze, not having AC wasn’t a problem at all.

After we got set up and enjoyed the view for a while on Saturday we headed into the town of Jackson (it’s super cute) to take care of some business and then into the park for our initial exploring.

We went to bed that night so excited to be right where we were.  Evan and Gray started out Sunday before dawn to hit the trails and capture the sunrise. Like father, like son. After their return we all began the day a little slower because its really hard to pull yourself away from such an incredible view.  Our slower start allowed us to FaceTime with our church during the baptism of two special young ladies.  Sometimes technology really is great.  Oh my heart was so happy!   But then, of course, our exploring continued in the afternoon.  The mountains can’t be beat but the rivers, fields and lakes surrounding the Tetons only magnify all the beauty.  We finished the day by jumping in Jackson Lake and allowing it to literally take our breath away because lakes filled with glacier water are COLD y’all!

On Monday Evan spent some time at the one and only Starbucks (he hates coffee but his work has a deep need for wifi) to get some things done and it allowed the kids and I a day to chill and just enjoy a down day at our campsite.

They played in the dirt  (soooo much dirrrrt) and the sand and laughed and giggled and it was good for the soul.  Once Evan was done working and the kids and I had played at least 100 rounds of Uno, we headed back into the park to search for wildlife as the sun went down.  We even put on “normal” clothes and captured a few pictures of ourselves as well. And let me just say, the models of the world have nothing to worry about because the Laniers get awkward on the other side of the camera! We finished our last night in the Tetons with a campfire and star gazing under the Milky Way.  I call our three nights there a win (outside of the amount of bug bites we endured).  Now we are on to Yellowstone and full hookup camping for a few days because, yall, this laundry is getting insane over here.
