It starts......the 2019 Summer Roadtrip

Well ladies and gentleman we are back on the road and gone for almost two months this time.

We have been looking forward to this trip since we finished up our last long trip last spring and realize we are beyond fortunate (and insane) to be able to do something like this.  Its’ been a total of 72 hours on the road so far and we haven’t turned back yet. This year is a little different compared to last as Phoenix is older so he now walks and has an opinion verses his eat/sleep/repeat routine on the road last year when he was such a tiny baby.  It will make for more fun memories as we watch him explore things along with Gray and Kyrie but  it is certainly an adjustment learning his personality in this nomadic lifestyle.

We left home Sunday morning and headed to church with the #AirstreamStarship in tow.  There is no better way I rather send ourselves off than with time in worship with our people.  Man are we going to miss them and our family and friends.  But, alas, we wouldn’t change it for the World.  Once church was over we changed clothes, hit up the KFC and started north.  We made one pitstop at the Natural Bridge of Alabama before we continued on and met up with Tropical Storm Barry. The natural bridge was a fun stop off.  It is so close to the interstate and a short walk from the parking lot with a gorgeous view.  Evan has known about it for a long time but we are rarely in the northwest corner of Alabama to be able to run by but Sunday was a great day for it.  Hours, and SO MUCH RAIN, later we arrived at our luxurious camping accommodations for the night: The Cracker Barrel parking lot in Jonesboro Arkansas.  The view wasn’t much to write home about but the road trip breakfast the next morning was to die for.

After breakfast on Monday we continued on with day two of driving and arrived in Kansas City, MO  in time to grill supper with our cousins, Joseph aka “Jojo” and Kirsten, who have graciously allowed us to stay in their driveway for two nights (I know, I know, our classiness just astounds you).  We were all more than happy to be out of the car (Phoenix especially) and lounge around for a bit.  As Tuesday morning arrived there was one important goal: find the best Kansas City BBQ we could.  So we did just that after checking out the local YMCA for my (Meagans) physical/mental sanity and grabbing coffee (again, another Meagan favorite… I’ve been spoiled ya’ll). Joe’s Kansas City BBQ is a hole-in-the-wall gas station bbq place and it’s the best BBQ we have ever had.  Kyrie summed it up on behalf of all of us as she kept saying “THIS IS AMAZING” between her bites of food.  No food was left anywhere on the table by the time we left and there was  A LOT of it when we started.

After our euphoric time at Joes, we went to check out the parks at the National World War 1 Museum and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.  It’s always a fun adventure when the kids (and adults) get to learn a little something and have time to just run, play and explore.  We wrapped up the day with supper and custard out with Joseph and Kristen and enjoying the city lights at night before sleeping like rocks and hitting the road again this morning.

We are bound for North Platte Nebraska. We’ll be meeting their summer heat wave there at a brisk 101 degrees but at least we will be a little less redneck as we won’t be staying in a parking lot/driveway.
